Quick pulse for Friday, October 30. Binance just lost more crypto in one evening than any exchange ever has. Alphabet had its worst day as a public company. Amazon and Intel sold off after hours. The NYSE’s owner wants to bring Hyperliquid’s perps to US retail. And inflation is moving the wrong way, a day after the Fed held.
Binance hack: about $6.3B taken, roughly $3B frozen#
It started at 20:05 UTC on Thursday, which was 22:05 Helsinki. Within about 20 minutes, Binance wallets on ten blockchains sent their balances to one attacker. TRM Labs counts about $6.36B at the moment of each transfer. That makes it the largest crypto theft on record, about 4x the $1.5B Bybit hack in February 2025. Binance puts the impact at about $6.3B.
The cause, per Binance. Its initial investigation says the incident “may involve a compromised DevOps engineer’s laptop,” which let the attacker into a service container to submit unauthorized withdrawal transactions. Binance says it found no evidence of a wallet private key leak, and a full post-mortem will follow. TRM’s read of the chain data fits that: wallets on different chains, with different key types, all signed for the attacker within about half an hour. That points at the hot wallet signing system, not stolen keys.
What left. Per TRM: 18,270 BTC (about $1.47B), about $3.79B on Ethereum including 200,630 ETH and 1.875B USDT, 612.7M USDT on Tron, 233.46M XRP, and 970,500 SOL. On Ethereum, the attacker used 50 pre-signed EIP-7702 delegations to turn a Binance hot wallet into a sweeper.
What got frozen. Tether froze about $1.77B USDT. Circle froze about $825M USDC. Ripple and World Liberty Financial froze smaller amounts, and Arbitrum’s Security Council froze 8,426 ETH. TRM counts about $2.7B frozen onchain. Binance says about $3B. The attacker raced the freezes by dumping USDT to market makers at a discount of more than 10% for ETH. It now holds more than 420,000 ETH plus the BTC, about $2.4B no issuer can touch.
Who. TRM attributes the hack to TraderTraitor, North Korea’s top hacking unit, “with high confidence.” ZachXBT says funds from Binance and the recent $388M Bitget hack were mixed at the same address after moving through THORChain.
What Binance says now. It will cover all losses from its SAFU fund and company money. Co-founder Yi He says withdrawals should start resuming within 48 hours. Bitcoin fell below $78K on the news and sits near $78.4K this morning, down 1.8% in 24 hours (CoinGecko). ETH is about $2,246.
Hyperscaler week: cloud is booming, cash flow is not#
Three giants reported. All three clouds grew faster. Two of three stocks still got hit, because the spending bill is now bigger than the cash coming in.

Sources: Amazon, Microsoft and Alphabet Q3 2026 releases. Segment definitions differ.
Alphabet: worst day since the 2004 IPO. The stock fell about 13% Thursday and lost about $500B in value, per CNBC. Revenue was $127.58B, up 25%, but under the $128.22B expected. Adjusted EPS was $2.67 against $3.02. It’s the first top-and-bottom-line miss in nearly four years. Search grew 12% to $63.35B, short of $64.96B. That is now 49.7% of Alphabet’s revenue, under half. Google Cloud was the one clean beat: $30.7B, up 103%, with operating income of $11.1B against $3.6B a year ago. The problem is cash. Free cash flow was -$9.07B, versus about -$2.7B expected. To pay for it, Alphabet raised $28.7B in bonds and sold $12.4B of stock in the quarter. Long-term debt is now $125.1B, up from $21.6B a year ago. It kept 2026 capex at $195-205B and said 2027 will rise “significantly.”
Microsoft: Azure, now in dollars. Azure revenue was $33.17B, up 48%, ahead of the $32.84B Visible Alpha estimate. Revenue was $92.3B, up 19%. EPS was $4.89 against $4.72. Capex was $45.2B, including $7.4B of finance leases. That was under the $50.67B expected, because some third-party capacity arrived late. On the call, CFO Amy Hood guided to about $170B of capex for calendar 2026, down from the $175B view, and more than $50B in the December quarter. Azure is guided to 49-50% growth. Free cash flow was $18.6B, still positive. The stock was roughly flat.
Amazon: fastest AWS growth in nearly five years. AWS revenue was $46.0B, up 39%, a $184B annual run rate. CEO Andy Jassy expects over 40% growth in both 2027 and 2028. But EPS of $1.89 missed $1.96. Revenue of $201.9B missed slightly. Quarterly capex hit $77.3B, against $58.7B expected (FactSet, per CNBC). Trailing free cash flow is -$42.4B. Amazon held 2026 capex at about $220B and said 2027 will be “meaningfully more.” Shares fell more than 6% after hours.
Intel: beat the quarter, broke the guide. Q3 revenue was $16.5B, up 21%. Adjusted EPS was $0.52 against $0.40. Data center and AI revenue jumped 78% to $7.3B. Then the guide: Q4 revenue of $15-16B versus $17.1B expected, and EPS of $0.25 versus $0.43 (LSEG, per CNBC), at a 38% adjusted gross margin. CFO David Zinsner sees the PC slowdown lasting “at least through the first half of next year.” An explosion at its Israel fab will cost about $600M of revenue over two quarters. The stock fell more than 20% after hours.
ICE wants to bring Hyperliquid perps to US retail#
The NYSE’s parent, Intercontinental Exchange, signed a definitive agreement with Trade[XYZ] on Thursday. Trade[XYZ] runs perpetual futures on Hyperliquid tied to stocks, indexes, commodities and currencies. Today it serves users outside the US only.
The plan, subject to regulators:
- ICE runs it. ICE becomes the exclusive operator of Trade[XYZ]’s regulated markets and takes a minority stake. The amount wasn’t disclosed.
- A separate structure. A new retail market and clearing house built on Hyperliquid, walled off from ICE’s institutional futures business. ICE says its markets today are more than 99% institutional.
- Real KYC. Verified customers would trade through futures brokers (FCMs). Distribution would include ICE’s joint venture with OKX.
- No date yet. No launch date, no contract list. The CFTC has said perps on non-crypto assets get case-by-case review.
HYPE jumped about 20% on the news, near its September record of $97.96, per Cointelegraph. It’s at about $93 this morning, still up 18% in 24 hours (CoinGecko). Stanley Druckenmiller says he’s an investor in Trade[XYZ].
James at InvestAnswers called it huge for crypto. His framing: options still belong to the professionals, and perps are aimed at the retail leverage crowd. Full disclosure: I trade equity perps on Hyperliquid myself. A Wall Street operator wanting this exact market is the clearest sign yet that onchain markets aren’t a side show.

Gemini 4 Carbon takes No. 1 on Artificial Analysis#
Google’s Gemini 4 Carbon now leads the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index v5 with a score of 59. Claude Opus 5.5 (max) is at 58 and GPT-6 Astra (max) at 57.

Source: Artificial Analysis, Intelligence Index v5.0.
The details matter more than the headline:
- Where it leads. Carbon has the top score on 4 of 9 index evaluations, mostly reasoning, knowledge and science.
- Coding. It’s second on the Coding Agent Index at 59, behind Claude Code with Opus 5.5 at 62. For Google, that’s a big jump.
- Cost. It costs $7.76 per index task, about 23% less than Opus 5.5 at $10.04, but more than GPT-6 Astra at about $6.25. List price is $4/$20 per million input/output tokens.
- Catch. You can’t use it yet. It’s rolling out to selected users only, with no public API.
Sundar Pichai said on the earnings call that Carbon beats Argon “on almost every domain.” The Gemini app passed 1B users. A one-point gap at the top means the lead can flip with the next release.
The Fed held. Then inflation came in hot.#
The Fed kept rates at 3.75-4.00% on Wednesday in a 10-2 vote. The two dissenters, Lisa Cook and Beth Hammack, wanted a quarter-point hike. The statement says inflation “remains elevated.” Chair Kevin Warsh said the committee wants more information first.
Thursday’s data made their case. September PCE prices rose 0.5% in a month, the biggest jump since March, for 3.6% a year. Core PCE rose 0.3% for 3.1% a year, in line with forecasts. Energy goods jumped 9.2% in the month. Meanwhile Q3 GDP grew at a 3.4% pace, beating 3.1%, and jobless claims fell to 194,000. A strong economy and rising prices is the mix that gets you hikes, not cuts.
Quick hits#
- Anthropic is doing drug discovery. It’s working with six partners, including Bristol Myers Squibb, Generate Biomedicines and BigHat. It also bought Mithril Medicine, a one-person biotech working on rare muscular dystrophies. Most of the work is still preclinical. The first human trial could start as soon as late 2028.
- Anthropic’s S-1. We covered the filing’s best number yesterday: revenue per compute dollar.
- Galaxy’s Q3. Net income was $323M, adjusted EPS $0.83, and adjusted EBITDA $455M. Its data center pipeline is now over 5.7 GW. It approved another $200M buyback.
- Samsung’s record. Operating profit hit 107.4T won on 195.3T won of revenue. Samsung says it’s the first tech company to top 100T won of operating profit in a quarter. The chip division made 106.5T of it.
- Tampered Ledgers in Singapore. Police say Ledger wallets bought from some Singapore retail stores had malicious hardware that captured recovery phrases. At least 2 cases since Sept 10 cost about S$3.5M (about $2.7M). Ledger had already paused sales across Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, on Oct 13, after tampered units sold by CryptoBilis, a Malaysian reseller, surfaced. Buy only from the maker.
InvestAnswers: hack math, Fed history and FSD in Europe#
James at InvestAnswers posted a lot on Patreon this week. Here’s what stood out beyond the items above.
He tracked the Binance hack as it grew. He called it a developing story early, when it already looked bigger than Bybit, then followed it past $6BN. Two of his early numbers have moved. He had Tether and Circle freezing at least $1.8BN; TRM’s count for those two is about $2.6B. He had the attacker at about 385K ETH; TRM says only 200,630 ETH was taken directly, but after swapping stablecoins the attacker now holds more than 420K.
Bitcoin after the Fed. He also looked at how BTC has traded after past Fed meetings. This week the hack is doing most of the work.
Earnings takes. He flagged Intel’s weak guide and Amazon’s capex jump. On Google, he pointed to the debt and stock sales funding capex, and search slipping under half of revenue.
FSD in Europe. Germany’s transport minister backed EU-wide approval of Tesla’s system, now renamed Tesla Assisted Driving, and Italy’s Matteo Salvini followed this week. The EU committee vote has slipped to December. It needs 15 of 27 countries with 65% of the EU’s population.
